Building Inspectors & Code Officials GUILD of America
Over the centuries apprenticeships have been the method of choice to ensure the life of many trades and professions. Passing along skills and knowledge has never been a quick and easy undertaking. A considerable commitment and time were needed in the past. Apprentices often went to live with the journeymen for several years learning their skills. They were seldom paid more than a roof over their heads and meals. In today’s world they are much more fortunate; they can live at home and earn a paycheck while they learn.
The Building Inspectors & Code Officials GUILD of America was founded in 2022 to address the needs of an aging profession. It was time to bring in a new, younger generation of building inspectors and code officials.
Most states do not have any type of “on the job training” regulations for this profession, so you are left on your own. It can be very difficult, time consuming and expensive to get yourself certified and into the ranks of building inspectors.
National and State records show an aging “Codes” workforce. It’s estimated more than 15,000 new building inspectors will be needed over the next ten years! This is above the people needed to replace all of those who are leaving the profession? Some are changing jobs, most are retiring. Where are we going to find experienced people to fill this need?
The solution really wasn’t that hard to find. Think, where do a lot of plumbers, carpenters and electricians come from? Many come from apprenticeship programs.
Obviously, a new Apprenticeship Program would be a great way to solve the problem we are facing.
