The Pre-Apprenticeship Program will be (1) school year in duration and consist of a maximum of (25) students. The class will be cohort-based. A goal of the training is to teach 12th grade students the role of building codes in today’s world. What types of codes are adopted and why we have them. An in-depth look at the 2018 International Residential Code as well as The Property Maintenance Codes for existing buildings.

The training program is designed to help a student become aware of the need for certain services in the building/construction industry as well as local Municipal Governments. This profession is rapidly aging and needs younger people to be the next generation of Building Inspectors and Code Officials.
Other positions in local government, like, zoning – land development – administration can also be benefitted by this training.

The program is designed to be consistent with the requirements and curriculum for first (1st) year apprentices. This will allow the students who complete the program and wish to continue with an apprenticeship will receive direct entry into the program. This would also be reflected in the pay scale placement for the new apprentice.

Those wishing to continue with their code related education will be offered direct entry into the apprentice program and be given equal opportunity for employment with a GUILD sponsor.
